Defensive play design ideas

On the first play the defensive line is in an over front. The two outside cornerbacks will work to funnel the perimeter receivers toward the middle of the field while the nickelback will work to squeeze the slot receiver to the sideline. The two perimeter cornerbacks will have outside leverage while the nickelback will have inside leverage. Both linebackers will play zone coverage in the hook areas while the free safety plays zone coverage in the deep third area.

Here both of the weak side cornerbacks are playing zone in the deep third areas.

Here the nickelback is blitzing off of the edge. The weak side cornerback is playing zone in the deep third area with the Will linebacker playing zone in the curl/flat area.
